Today we’re diving into an exciting feature in Qala known as Block Template Parts, or simply theme parts as we like to call them. This powerful tool leverages the block editor, allowing you to edit content on sections of your site that are typically beyond the reach of the standard block editor.

For instance, you can use the Block Template Parts to customize the header above your product archive pages, create a global section above or below your site footer, or add a unique element at the bottom of every blog post. As Qala continues to update and evolve, the number of available block template parts will grow with new additions. This means even more flexibility and creative control for you.

Let’s dive in. To begin, we’ll access the template parts by navigating to the Qala menu and selecting the Theme Parts submenu. This will bring up a list of all the template parts available in our current version of Qala. For this tutorial, we’ll be editing the global before footer template part. This template part is added by Qala, but if you have additional plugins installed on your site, it’s possible that they also add new template parts to use.

To begin editing the content, we simply click the template part we want to edit. This will open up a preview of the template part which is currently empty, and clicking that opens up the familiar block editor. Here you can edit content just as you would in a regular page block editor.

The first step we like to do is add a Group block. The Group block enables us to align our content and ensures that we can add the necessary white space such as padding and margins. Once we have our Group block in place, we can start creating our content. For this example, we are just going to create a simple call-to-action button for a campaign on T-shirts.

You’ll find that you have the same access to all the blocks and all the block controls that you have in a regular block template part. Once we are happy with our edits, we can now save our block template part.

Now let’s look at our block template part on the front end of our site. Since we added the content to the global above footer section, it will render on all pages. We can simply scroll down, and there is our new content. If we are unhappy with our changes, we can simply go back and edit the content. If we want to remove it, it can be done by either deleting all of the block template contents that are within it, or we can go back to the list, click the three dots to the far right, and clear all customizations.

This is how you can create, edit, and remove content on your site using the power of the block template parts in Qala.

Qala Template Parts.
